Scugog says fond farewell to Cecil
by Blake Wolfe/The Scugog Standard

Another member of Scugog Council has decided to call it a day, with a municipal election in the township just months away.

Ward 1 Councillor Cecil Lamrock announced this week that he would not be seeking re-election this fall, after one four-year term of serving residents living in Scugog’s western and northern rural areas. Councillor Lamrock, who will complete his first council term later this year, cited both the length of the council term as well as the desire to focus on family and other objectives - including the Port Perry Fair Board (he currently serves as board president) and his greenhouse business, Lamrock’s Country Garden - as factors in his decision. Councillor Lamrock will join fellow council members Mayor Marilyn Pearce and Ward 3 Councillor Lynn Philip Hodgson in not seeking re-election in 2010.

“At this point, I feel another four years would be a long time,” said Councillor Lamrock. “This was a good council, but there comes a time when you have to decide whether or not to run again.”

The councillor said that he is satisfied with both his personal accomplishments - in particular his work with the Scugog Accessibility Advisory Committee (SAAC) - as well as those of Scugog Council as a whole, such as improvements to local roads and infrastructure and work with local community hall boards.

“I made my mark and I hope I will be respected for what I’ve accomplished,” said Councillor Lamrock.
